A short guide

Where to get married
in Piedmont

Choosing the venue is the first real decision of your wedding, and it shapes everything else: the light, the timings, how your guests move through the day and how your photographs will look. The Langhe, the Roero and the Monferrato are UNESCO World Heritage landscapes, and among the most beautiful places in Europe to get married.

I have photographed weddings in Piedmont since 2009, and these are places I know from the inside: villas, castles, a royal palace and farmhouses among the vineyards. This isn’t a ranking. It’s a short guide from someone who has spent whole days in these places, from the first preparations to the last dance.

Before you start

How to choose
your venue

Three questions that make the choice much easier, especially if you are planning from abroad.

Langhe, Roero or Monferrato?

The Langhe are the hills of Barolo: steep vineyards and hilltop villages. The Roero is softer and greener, with sandy hills and woods. The Monferrato, towards Asti, is gentler still, with long open views. It’s a matter of atmosphere.

Villa, castle or farmhouse?

A villa gives you elegance and gardens. A castle gives you history, stone and large rooms, which help if it rains. A farmhouse gives you a relaxed, rustic day among the vines.

Where will your guests sleep?

For a destination wedding this matters more than anything. A venue with rooms on site keeps everyone together and makes the day calmer, for you and for your photographs.

The hills of Barolo

The Langhe

Steep vineyards, hilltop villages and some of the most famous wines in the world, from Barolo to the Moscato hills.

Monforte d’Alba

Villa Beccaris

An 18th-century villa on the edge of Monforte d’Alba, one of the most beautiful villages of the Barolo area, a short walk from the centre. A shaded garden, a pool and the hills of the Langhe all around: ideal for an elegant wedding with guests who want to stay together.

Serralunga d’Alba

Il Boscareto Resort

A contemporary resort among the Barolo vineyards of Serralunga d’Alba, with a spa and a renowned restaurant. Clean lines, large windows and views over the vines from almost everywhere: a modern choice in the heart of the Langhe.

Santo Stefano Belbo

Relais San Maurizio

A former monastery on a hilltop above Santo Stefano Belbo, in the Moscato hills of the Langhe, restored as a luxury hotel with large gardens, a spa and an outdoor pool. Classic, refined and quiet, with views over the vineyards.

Alba

Casa Scaparone

A working farm in the countryside just outside Alba: brick and stone buildings among vineyards, hazelnut groves and orchards, rustic rooms and an osteria serving the food of the farm. Perfect for a relaxed wedding with long tables outside.

Softer and greener

The Roero

Across the Tanaro river from the Langhe: sandy hills, woods, orchards and the vineyards of Arneis.

Canale

Villa Tiboldi

A country house among the vineyards of the Roero, with a garden facing the hills, excellent food and a warm welcome. I photographed Linn and Matias’s intimate garden ceremony here.

Canale

Villa Cornarea

The home of the Cornarea winery, on a hill above Canale, with vineyards on every side and a 360-degree view over the Roero from the top. A wedding among the vines, in the truest sense.

Barbera, Moscato and long views

Monferrato and the Asti hills

The gentlest hills of Piedmont, between Asti and Alessandria: noble villas and small hotels surrounded by vines.

Monastero Bormida

Villa La Madonna

A villa on the hills of the Langa Astigiana, with vineyards in every direction and long views over the valley. I photographed an elegant wedding here: ceremony among the vines, dinner by candlelight, portraits at golden hour.

Cremolino

Nordelaia

A centuries-old farmhouse in the Alto Monferrato, restored as a small hotel with twelve rooms, a pool and a seasonal restaurant, looking out over the vineyards. Intimate and contemporary, a short drive from Genoa airport.

Penango

Relais Sant’Uffizio

A 16th-century former monastery among vineyards and olive groves in the Monferrato, surrounded by a private park with an Italian garden, with a spa, a pool and a renowned restaurant in the old lemon house. Elegant and timeless.

Costigliole d’Asti

Villa Pattono

A historic noble estate surrounded by Barbera vineyards, restored as a boutique hotel, with frescoed ceilings, a garden and a panoramic pool overlooking the vines.

Mombaruzzo

La Villa Hotel

A 17th-century palazzo in the Monferrato hills, now a family-run boutique hotel, with landscaped gardens, a pool and, on clear days, a view that reaches the Alps.

History and stone

Castles and palaces

For couples who dream of grand rooms, old walls and a park: castles in the countryside and a royal residence near Turin.

San Martino Alfieri

Castello dei Marchesi Alfieri

A historic castle with a large park and its own winery, between the Roero and the Asti hills. Grand rooms, centuries-old trees and a calm, noble atmosphere.

Villanova Solaro

Castello dei Solaro

A medieval castle from the 1200s, still surrounded by its moat, with a park, fountains and frescoed halls. The most “castle” castle in this list.

Morozzo, near Cuneo

Castello di Morozzo

An 18th-century castle in the countryside near Cuneo, set in its own park, with tree-lined paths that lead down to a lake.

Venaria Reale, Turin

Reggia di Venaria

The royal residence of the House of Savoy, just outside Turin and part of a UNESCO World Heritage site: baroque halls, a great gallery and vast formal gardens. Unforgettable for portraits.

Your questions

What is the best time of year for a wedding in Piedmont?

From May to October. Late May, June and September are my favourite months: long days, soft light and green or golden vineyards. From late September the harvest begins and the colours are at their best.

How far are these venues from the airports?

Turin airport is the closest for most of them, about an hour or a little more from the Langhe and the Roero. Milan Malpensa is about two hours away, Genoa about an hour and a half.

Can we have a civil ceremony at the venue?

In Italy a civil ceremony with legal value can only take place in a venue the local town hall has authorised. Some of these venues are, others aren’t: ask the venue, or ask me and I’ll tell you what I know. A symbolic ceremony can be held anywhere.

Can you recommend a venue for us?

Yes. Tell me your date, the number of guests and the atmosphere you have in mind, and I’ll suggest two or three places that fit.

Do you only photograph in these venues?

No. These are places I know well, but I photograph weddings all over Piedmont, Italy and abroad.

Have you found your venue?

Let's work together

I am a wedding photographer based in Alba, in the Langhe, and every year I take on a limited number of weddings. Tell me your date and your venue, or the one you are still choosing: I’ll tell you if I’m free and share what I know about it.
